Clinical Professional Development (CPD) is a team within NuVasive who is charged with creating and implementing a range of education programs designed to enhance and expedite the professional development of surgeons.
One of our biggest assets is the Delta training that CPD offers. Launched in March 2018, Delta Training is our flagship and its core principles are woven into other programs the CPD team offers.
Delta training is a comprehensive, competency-based training program following a blended-learning approach that is focused on a defined pathology and procedure which includes: specially trained faculty, highly-interactive pre- and post-course online modules, 1:2 faculty to learner ratio, practice-based assessment, and communities of practice. For practice-based assessment, formal faculty visit to apply competencies to first case. In communities of practice, CPD provides extended learning through a web-based, peer-to-peer platform. Having multiple educational pathways that are customizable for our various surgeons is key to the success of our surgeon trainings.
“I think what the CPD team is doing is groundbreaking. It’s going to totally revolutionize the way that we think about surgeon education. Recognizing that mastery of information does not always equate to the ability to teach that education. We’re able to be more learner-focused, learner-centric, in an effort not only to teach a procedure, but to inspire a way of thinking about the spine.”
– Brett Braly, M.D.
The program has grown from a strong foundation built on the training of our Delta faculty, who are committed to being inspiring teachers and effectively supporting learning. The faculty is made up of six specially selected surgeons dedicated to education.
CPD is committed to driving lifelong learning and engagement with surgeons by building trusting relationships, which are based on understanding our surgeons’ goals, ambitions, and aspirations. The CPD team will deliver personalized plans and solutions to support our surgeons’ training, skills acquisition, and professional development with the goal of improving their clinical performance, their patients’ safety, and their patients’ outcomes.
“It’s a whole new level of education. This is a program unlike any other educational program I’ve ever seen. Certainly in spine surgery, but maybe in surgery period. It’s an honor to be part of this type of program. I can’t wait to see it implemented. ”
-Ivan Cheng, M.D.
